Aha...somebody else awake at the crack of dawn listening to the news.
Did wonder what would be next in line for a little trimming work,as the EA was specifically mentioned as being one of the unprotected departments at risk.
As cuts to flood protection works are political suicide for the treasurory something else watery is going to have to feel the pinch ?
S uggestions where the axe could fall would be very useful for the chancellor:)

If I thought anyone cared I could comment on how few boats were on the river this afternoon between Staines and Windsor. I could also comment on how sad it was that Romney lock was on self service at 3pm - first lock upriver from one of the largest hire fleets with new hirers on the first day of their holiday.

I care .
Me and a friend were talking about the lack of boats on the river only the other day.
It's not an improving situation is it despite what the EA may say about registrations etc.Long gone are the days when you had to be moored up Friday afternoon at Cliveden or all the spaces had gone.Ralph at boulters told my friend probably 4/5years ago if it wasn't for Narrowboats during the week they would see no one most of the time. Its a shame.

As for lockies I think the horse has bolted on that one so to speak,we have all been softened up with out of hours hydraulics, trained up if you like, trusted with button pushing:).Who misses hand winding,I certainly don't !
You don't think it was installed for our benefit do you?Was all part of a plan me thinks, but then I'm a suspicious bugger!

The upper Mudway was fairly busy with local boats, plus nice to see a few out of area adventurous types venturing up river.
We followed a steel boat as he forced his keel through the gravel under Aylesford Bridge and held a conversation with a Sealine F33 owner as he debated wether he could get under the bridges in Maidstone town centre in order to go on up to East Farleigh.
