George has gone bonkers...

George, our Raymarine ST7000+ autopilot has gone bonkers. Working perfectly up to the weekend, on tuesday he's started steering in perfect zig-zags. Have tried recalibrating the gain and other settings but to no avail. Connection to the steering gear is fine as the zig-zags are perfectly regular leaving a slalom wake. No gyro.

Any clues as to what I should look at next??

You can reset the flux compas I seem to remember. Perhaps thats the issue

Hi Simon,

I recognise the problem and I diagnosed it as one of the cables to the fluxgate coming detached. The fluxgate is located under the centreline cushion of the dinette.

Now why would I know that....

When my ST4000 suddenly had the same problem it was the control head. Replaced it once, didn't fix it, sent the new on back to Raymarine and got another control head, after which it was working again.

Ah - I was messing about in that locker at the weekend! Thanks for the tip - will check it out!

Most probably the fluxgate , try by gently tapping it !
