geonav 7 wide plus AIS

My dad have a Geonav 7 wide plotter plus AIS and last year it worked well. Now he got last winter a new software update on his plotter and now AIS is not working anymore. That means that it works for 5 minutes and than the plotter will be blocked by the enormous amount of data from the AIS. Disconnection of the AIS solves the problem of the working of the plotter but than you can't get the AIS data.
Does other people also have the same experience with Geonav.

the plotter have an internal antenna and the AIS have his own antenna (dedicated from the VHF).
So plotter is working well alone; ais is working well on my plotter (raymarine). But combination of ais and Geonav 7 wide give problems

Maybe he should email Geonav and ask them the question.

connection speeds?

it could be that the software update changed the port speed between your ais and the geonav. check the setup menu and verify it, use manuals to see at what speeds it should be. mostly 38400 bd but can be different...

to me it looks like the ais isn't waiting for the geonav to process the data hence flooding the geonav...

already checked and changed bitrate but this did not solve the problem
waiting now for answer from Geonav but want to know if others have the same problems

geonav and AIS

This problem is caused by the slow bout rate (data transfer). the Geonav can only be connected to AIS receivers that support or can be configured for slow data rate. Together with the (fast) data transmission of the (active) GPS antenna, this clogs up the plotter. A simple solution is to install a multiplexer, that basically separates the data streams from GPS and AIS and feeds the data to the plotter in a controlled way.

We had the same problems you describe, but after installing the multiplexer, it works just fine, exempt in areas with extremely large amounts of AIS targets, such as when crossing Maasmond at Hook of Holland. Occasionally, the plotter still stalls and has to be restarted. This can not be fixed: Geonav will install 13000 bout data rate (industrial standard ) in future product. A fix for the 7 wide is not planned.

I have the same problem. Disconnecting mast antenna reduces targets of Geonav wide 7.

More fun: many targets thats clogs the plotter are hundreth miles distance and are no interest to navigation. I have found also a difference in the ships position between ais and Trafic marine app. Any suggestion..?
