For any forum members contemplating a visit to the Medway in the future we have a new LNG (liquid natural gas) terminal about to go “live”. The terminal is located approx. 1.5 nm up-stream from Garrison Point on the North shore, just up-stream of the “Victoria” buoy. When vessels are on the berth there will be an exclusion zone around the berth for 250 mtrs. I would advise that you stay well clear and with 3 ships/week expected the best thing is to stay clear. There will be a guard tug on duty whilst a ship is unloading.
I would recommend that any visitors entering the Medway aim for the “South Kent” buoy before proceeding up-stream. If you are going into Queenborough then it shouldn’t affect you, as you should be well clear.

I wish you good sailing and should you visit the Medway why not try the Medway YC moorings for easy access to the Medway Towns.

Re: The Medway.

I haven't been down that way for at least 35 years. I have happy memories of coming into the Isle of Grain refinery and going ashore to the "Cat and Cracker" in Grain village, or up to Allhallows where if I remember correctly, the pub was called the "Rose and Crown"

Also used to watch the grey funnel line ships going up to Chatham docyard.

Don't suppose I'd recognise much now ! !

Re: The Medway.

The Cat & Cracker has indeed gone, now replaced by "The Hogarth Inn." He apparently done a lot of painting in Grain.
What you would'nt recognise would be the lack of a refinery! All gone, down to the last brick.
It did used to be handy coming into Grain as my parents lived there.
