If you want the airco to be especially crap, use the flexy piping which is designed to fall apart and slows down the air horribly, and isn't lagged. Decent airco would take the air up as hig as possible with as few bends/branches as poss in an internally-smooth-as-poss lagged pipe.
We had aircon fitted to P42 last month, boat is now in med. Evry one sed we will need a new Genny (ours is 4.6). But it was bolx. To be safe, we had 2 aircon units fitted, one for the cabins and one for the saloon. Reason was, we could start them in sequence to avoid a big start up load. But axshully we can run both together and the kettle! It only trips out if we put the immersion heater on too.
So dont waste money on a new genny. Try as is. A lot of the time you use aircon, you will be on shorepower anyway
BTW, there's a big choice of aircon units. We went for 2x compressors (the noisy bit) in lazerette, then high pressure metal piping round the boat, to 3x evaporaters in the saloon/cabins. Then you only have the fan motors in the living areas.
No, the best way is not to send the cold air down any pipes at all. You should pipe the compressed fluid around the boat using microbore metal pipes, then have evaporators with fans in the cabins that create the cold air and deliver it straight out. No ducting. That's what your boat has btw
is he not having just one unit in the saloon tho? is it not cheaper to have an allinone unit in the lazarette under saloon floor probaly saying Cruisair on it plus avoiding the high pressure pipery all around?
Thanks for comments. Thats interesting and do you get nice cold air out of the vents not tepid air 0.1 deg colder than ambient? What is the reccomended set up in terms of which components should go where in order to maximize efficiency? Did you get your a/c fitted in UK or out there and who did it?
We gottit in UK because wanted to supervise it a bit. We used Taylormade in Poole, 01202 493255. Very pleased, great job. They had done it dozens of times before, so v competent. We specced some quite serious kit, HFL. Remote compressors, copper piping, digi controls, reverse cycle, autodehumid in the winter. £7200 fitted. It does serious cold air, not a pathetic waft of slightly cool air. As I say, we had the two compressors right aft in the lazret, then they run copper piping to the chillers in the saloon and cabins which have a fan and motor
