I have a petrol boat with an all electric galley and am thinking about fitting a generator between the engines.
I found this one on the web http://www.hondagenerator.co.uk/pages/HondaEU30is.htm and wondered what you think about the feasability of doing so.
(it costs about £2k which is a fraction of the price of the official one)
Obviously I would have to modify the exhaust to avoid gassing myself but what else would be needed? Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Three things spring to mind.
1 Is it ignition protected?
2 You should be very concerned about CO.
3 As it's not watercooled, the exhaust is going to be a problem.

I think the answer is a big NO

The exhaust will be the big issue. If you try and extend it I think the unit will overheat as it's not designed to push the fumes up a long pipe. Condensation in the exhauset may be an issue also.

how often are you in the galley, when shorepower isnt available, out of interest? And quite what are you intending to rustle up ? I think I d be inclined to look at changing the menu and a simple solution in the cockpit /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif £10 gas plate and a griddle pan.. luverly...!

Spot on.

I can recommend one of THESE and it packs down very small in it's own bag.

I'm picking up a eu20i for my boat but it will only be carried in the engine space.

In use it will be on either the river side or the stern platform. I intend using it for cooking, hot showers and topping up the batteries when off the beaten track.

Petrol generator? Loud carbon monoxide alarms in every living space, with a regular check routine.

I'm probably overly paranoid about that, if one can be.

Well,

I know this is a bit dodgy but if anyone is after a brand new Honda EU20i, still in box and bought in November drop me a PM as I will knock a couple of hundred pounds off retail.

(Unwanted gift off the inlaws!)

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies, it seemed a good idea at the time and looked a lovely bit of kit. I don't think i will go ahead now.

The reason was that i am soon going to retire and my wife's hobby is cooking so I hoped to get her more at home on the boat and for us to go away from the marina
