I have two gensets on board the boat one of which is a little sick. i have now had to wait 8 weeks fo rthe local agent to come with the parts to repair said unit and also service them both at the same time. not surprisingly after telling them that they need to bring specific service items they failed to bring them.

When questioning the technician ( techie in the loosest posible sense of the word) i find that after sending a written request detailing the work to be carried out the halfwit service manager has not even ordered the required parts for the job!!!!! ie no fuel filters, belts and anodes for the units. plus they came with non original oil filters to fit, bearing in mind that the gensets are still in warranty and they are the local distributor this is appalling. now they tell me i will have to wait something like two weeks for the parts to arrive!!!!!!!!

beware do not get your gensets serviced here in Trinidad /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Unfortunately that sort of thing is not unusual in Trinidad. We had our engine rebuilt by Gittens Engineering last year. We later discovered the slide for alternator hadn't been bolted to the engine, the engine mounting nuts came undone (no spring washers) etc etc. There are good technicians there, Adian who runs Gittens is a case in point but he is too busy and employs people who don't seem to care.

well after service (IF YOU CAN CALL IT THAT) the generator still overheats so now to get really mad. I have already called the Onan peeps in ststes so no it is down to them to sort th e dealer out.

Also have MTU engineer arivving tomorrow after failing misarably to get local people to even attend to the boat to look at warranty items. Phone call to germany soon sorted that out MTU instructed florida dealer to come and sort it out at mtu expense!!!!!!!!

ZF gearbox sender unit should be here tomorrow and that should be fitted.

all i need now is the carpet cleaner to come back with the carpet.

Yes, I know the feeling. It's taken us two months of constant nagging to get a most basic welding job done in Peake's yard (because the yard bar non-listed contractors). Then demanded £105 for just over 1 hour's work.

If you want a job done ....
