Will a genny rated as max output 2.2kW / rated output 1.8kW run an an appliance rated at 2.2kW?
I promise it will only ever be used 10 miles from the nearest boat.

The 1.8 kW rating is almost certainly the maximum it is capable of managing continuously. 2.2 kW will be its maximum for a short period, or intermittently

To some extent it may depend on the type of load, ie resistive, like a kettle or heater, or inductive, like an electric motor. Also on what the initial starting load might be for a motor.

Any appliance containing a motor will require much more power to start - typically 4-6 times the running load of the motor.

Thanks to both of you. It's a washing machine so I'm guessing the peak load will be the heating element (?) so maybe on for 10 mins or so.
