30boat

I'm beginning to plan an osmosis treatment for my Westerly Fulmar 32.
I was wondering how much Gelshield will be necessary for a boat that size.

Going back 35+ years when ICI first introduced 2 Pack Paint for the Motor Trade boat repairers started using it on GRP boat hulls. But it was only sold through Motor Trade Paint distributors and never advertised.
Then International Paints started selling it. Their previous single pack paint which had been applied to the hull of my 1973 yacht in 1979 (due to osmosis) had faded that much that in 1982 when I bought the boat you could not tell that the hull had been painted. that and the osmosis was reappearing.
Anyway I bought a tin of the New International 2 Pack and compared it to the ICI 2 Pack Paint I was using in my body shop. And it appeared the same, apart from the ICI stuff was 50% Cheaper. Anyway I painted the hull of the yacht and three years later I sold the boat. and the osmosis had not re-appeared.
Leaping forwards to now. Motor Trade 2 Pack Paint is still available. I recently did the hull (to waterline) of a 23ft boat with it. Yes you can put it on with a brush. OK you do leave a few brush marks, but they disappear under the brush marks of anti fouling.
So on my next boat I am going to do the same. Three Coats. Dont know how much Gelshield is. Cant be as cheap as what I buy. And the colour of white boat hulls. Ford Diamond White.
