The link below is the Zoom PowerPoint presentation I made to the Westerly Owners Association on Tuesday evening on Gel Coat Restoration. There are many photos and tips on how to make your Westerly boat look smart again (also applies to many other makes with brushed, not sprayed, gel coat). Anyone with an older boat may find it helpful and inspiring.

If you missed the post I made about the talk I gave to the RYA London and South East Conference in January on the restoration of my Westerly Fulmar - this is the link.

Some useful tips, thanks.

Concerto now looks a different boat to the one you bought 7 years ago, you have every reason to be proud of her. And yourself for the huge amount of work you’ve put in.

Tremendous (hard!) work, Roger! Did you paint all the coach roof sides white or just the front sloping panel?

Just the front sloping panel. If you look carefully on the port side you can see the curved edge in PowerPoint presentation, following the original like a previous owner had used. These photos shows how it used to look before I started work on the deck and how it looks now. Looks much smarter now and using white is a useful tip for many difficult areas. The mast step area shows the holes from the old mast step that was replaced after the mast broke and was replaced with a smaller mast step in about 1996. This will get painted along with the gel coat under the handrails on the coachroof and the whole main hatchbox in front of the sprayhood.

The other major difference between the photos is I have added a stainless steel strip to the rubbing strake. Since then I have also changed all the alloy stanchions to stainless steel, raised them from 24" to 27" and added side gates. The toe rail has also been varnished with 8 coats of Le Tonkinoise traditional varnish. Unfortuately I cannot locate a photo to show these changes.
