Epoxy tar is really designed to go over the gel coat as an additional layer, but really you need to talk to the manufacturer of the product to get the correct answer.

G'day Neilsan,

If the gel-coat has been ground off, then presumably it will need fairing, this would be an ideal time to add the 3 layers of epoxy, and perhaps consider one layer of glass prior to the 3 layers.

You say he plans to coat it with epoxy tar, could this be Tar-epoxy, banned in most countries as its a carcinogenic.

I would advise him to read the can, get a copy of the 'safety data sheet' and check the manufacturers spec's prior to committing to this action.

Avagoodweekend......
