Does any one have any first hand experience of any Gel Coat repair companies in the Solent/South Coast area? I have put a nasty scratch in the hull of my boat (a bad misjudgement of how low the pontoon was by the wife) and want a professional repair to keep her looking her best. Mainly because she has a coloured Gel Coat and I would be unlikely to get a good match with a DIY repair.

Thanks Andy

I think your best doing it yourself, as even a professional repair would have to remove a couple of thou of gelcoat from the surrounding area therfore revealing the new surface underneath, therefore it would be slighlty mismatched until time and grime blends it back again.

Just my two penneth.:)

I've used Goodacre's at Port Solent when some coloured gelcoat got scarred and found they did a very good job indeed.

They took the trouble to match the colours properly and there wasn't any problem with different colour in the area at all, a year or two later you still can't see where they tidied up.

Worth an ask anyway (although to be fair they're not cheap I was happy with the value for money aspect).

Thanks Daedelus I'll give them a call for a quote, I've had one so far, £300 not sure if that is good, bad or average.
Definitely not doing the repair myself as my fiberglassing skills wouldn’t do the boat justice and I’ve seen the wife paint so there’s no way she’s doing it.

At least I was brave about it and didn’t cry (but it was a close thing), she did lol.
