My son has recently brought himself a sports cruiser (Fletcher) and although the gel coat is of reasonable condition, it has minor scratches and etc.

It also has transfers attached to the hull, her previous owner 'boat name' which he wishes to remove. The transfer appears to be the same as used by the manufactures (flash lines/decals).

The question is, whats the best method to remove these and then buff up the hull's gel coat.

Probably first use a good detergeant and see what happens, if there is staill some marking try Farcela GRP cleaner, its the business! Then maybe some polish.

Cheers

Contact Farecla for advice and details of their full range of relevant products as you may need to use more aggressive materials. ( a proper compounding mop is a vital piece of equipment when restoring faded, discoloured or scratched gel coat ) Unfortunately their website is undergoing reconstruction but their phone no is 01920 465041.

Removing Decals

The decals can be removed with a hot air gun: warm the area just enough to weeken the glue, without damaging the gelcoat. But the gelcoat underneath will be much whiter than the surrounding area, due to ageing. No amount of buffing will remove that.
