I have a Yanmar 1gm. Can anyone recommend me the correct oil for the gearbox. Thanks.

For my 2GM20 the gearbox lub oil is SAE viscosity 30. Think it is the same for the 1GM.

whatever you do dont use high viscosity gearbox oil. The cone clutch has to grip - once it starts sliding because the oil is too slippy you end up with polished cones (sounds painful) which hurts the wallet.
The previous owner of my old boat did that, I had to have the box shimmed and the supplier then recommended sae 10 engine oil. Worked well as long as I had the boat.
I cant suggest you do the same as me. The safe suggestion is to follow the manual or ask Barrus technical.

from memory its the same grade as the engine.

Many thanks for advice. I performed a contorsionist act the other day and found a plate showing oil as 20/30 HD which I took to be 'heavy duty'.
