I am about to upgrade my gearbox from a zf5 to zf10, my old one is fine, but it has almost 3000 hrs on it. I change the oil every 100hrs or every month, whichever comes first. The guy at the gearbox outfit said that they are good for 1000 hrs, or less if bolted onto a 3 cyl Perkins like mine... So that means I will be replacing it after about 10 months.... That can't be right, can it?

No it can't be right, are you sure the new gearbox is the correct spec for your engine, are you talking a Japanese 3 cylinder motor? Or a high torque slow revving earlier direct injection engine.

Perkins perama 30 HP at 3,600 revs, the gearbox I want to put on will be the correct spec for that engine...the GB I have on at the moment is a zf5.
