I have a VP 2030 and have tried to locate the dipstick for the gear box without success.
Can anyone tell me where the access point for changing gear oil is?

Thanks in advance

You dont say whether shaft drive or sail drive or which version of the engine or gear box
All pretty similar dipstick on top of box near filler cap, drain plug on bottom bearing cover or bottom of lower SD gearbox. Oil can also be extracted from the shaft drive box and the upper gearbox only of an SD using a pump via the dipstick hole.

There is some variation between early and late models but your owners manual should show the details.

Note oil level is checked with the dip stick just resting in position, not screwed fully home.

If you have mislaid the manual you should be able to download one from

Also shown on the parts diagrams at http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-schematics-MarineDieselEngines.aspx

Can I suggest you get a spare O ring for the filler cap. The old one can distort on unscrewing the cap and will never fit again which allows the gearbox to 'pump' out the fluid very rapidly.
