Gear lever stuck in reverse

Please help ! I recently fouled my prop on my mooring lines
which i have freed but the gear lever is now stuck in reverse
has anyone any idea how i can free it.the boat is a 27' colvic northerner /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
Not being a sailing guy, here is a tip which works on 4x4 vehicles. In essence, although you have removed the 'mess,'
around the prop, try this. Before reverting to removing any gearbox bits!
IF it is SAFE to do so? Drive the boat astern with full power, then AT THE SAMETIME, flick the gearlever very quickly into neutral as your return the throttle quickly to idle! Good look!
 
O, An after thought! You say the lever is stuck in reverse! Does this mean the prop is still is in reverse? Or is it in neutral?
If it is! Then the geabox selector cover will need to come off!
 
Yes it can be freed by using a stilson or mole grip on the prop shaft and turning the shaft in the same direction as for running astern as someone tries to engage neutral at the same time.

The cones are jammed and need a little help:)
