gear box oil

Recent postings on Hurth gear box oil have got me worried.

I have just bought an old boat with Borg Warner Velvet Drive Boxes (AS7-70C and AS3-70C) with no information whatever on type of oil to use. The last owner left it with very thin clear oil which I assume is ATF.

Can anyone please help?

Clicking on that address diverts you onto their Home page...then click on Trawler World list archives....then choose in May 2002 the column THREAD (click - it's in alphabetical order)...and scroll down to Oil in Velvet Drive transmissions (there are 4 entries).
