TwinRudders's video of dolphins swimming beside his boat prompts memories of similar experiences. Whenever Freestyle is accompanied by dolphins they seem to breach synchronously, either in pairs or in groups of three.

Why do they do this? I wonder if it is a manifestation of the homosexual partnerships that male dolphins typically form. Apparently the bond lasts until death doth them part. Thereafter the surviving partner wanders in what is commonly an endless search for another unattached male.

Bisexual cetaceans

Kinda cute, isn't it?

don't have gays anywhere near glasgow. This guy was just checking if we'd got a nice piece of tuna on board.

Why Bother????????????????

[/ QUOTE ] It's what kills cats. Seeking explanations for what we observe is both interesting and useful - well OK, maybe not so useful in this case, but I'd still love to know why dolphins synchronise their leaps - is it just social behaviour, the dolphin equivalent of holding hands in humans?

I'm especially that the question was asked, because it led me to Mark Johnson's home page, which has a good FAQ section on LED lights for boats.
