Just a quick question: do I put some gasket paste/stuff between the engine block and the exhaust elbow? I am putting a Yanmar proprietary gasket there as well - it's made of card material with a metal ring around the exhaust hole.

I'm re-threading the elbow bolts, and hopefully it'll be airtight, but just this query before I do the last thread & tighten the bolts.
Yanmar YSM 8, very old, new genuine yanmar gasket.

I usually put Copaslip in gaskets nuts and bolts.

I wouldnt use gasket "goo" Those type of seal/gaskets should not need help.
I agree with bilgediver, copaslip/copper grease, will make taking it apart again in the future much easier!!

Thanks guys,
I thought normal gasket paste/liquid wouldn't handle the temperature involved here, and I had never heard of Copaslip before. Will have a look in the car/auto shop.
thank you

Did mine recently, and the guys at Marine Power (the Yanmar dealers at Bursledon) told me not to use anything. Seems fine without!
