Hello! I've not posted since the rain started falling but now that someone's mentioned arranging for the tides to recede this weekend I thought I should finally investigate getting our heating working!

We have a Sealine 285 with a carver gas warm air heater. It hasn't worked since we bought the boat and it hasn't bothered me before. Now, with a 9 month baby to consider, I think it might be useful if it worked.

Does anyone know of an engineer I could call who might be able to give it an informed kick?

Additional follow-up questions are:

1. Is there a safe alternative for indoor heating on a boat? I don't like the idea of portable gas heaters... seems like a disaster waiting to happen... but open to reviews/suggestions?
2. Is an upgrade to a Diesel eberspacher (and all the relevant pains in the arse around a separate tank and filling point for said diesel on a petrol powered boat) worth considering? I think an install would be £3k which seems too much.

you may find a caravan dealers will have a company they could recommend as I think Carver are used on " tin snails"
 
Carver P4: Excellent, and 100% safe as long as the exhaust is intact. It's an LPG version of the Eberspacher!

Take the main box out, and vacuum out all the fluff, it should light up then.

Refit exhaust nice and tight...

(You may want to partially strip to remove all fluff from the little airflow sensors on the air intake, this is simple, and common. The fluff sucked in blocks the air sensors ability to 'see' passing air, so it fails to ignite after the initial period...

Oi, Watch It don't be derogatory about NBs - they're tin slug not snails.
No self respecting Nb'er would user a carver - everybody uses an Ebersplutter or better units.

I've got a Truman that came with the boat. Gas and expensive to run. Takes the chill off, but that's all. The Boatman stove makes it warm and toasty, but takes a while to get going if it goes out.
