I've rently had to have my aluminum Gas tank patched, after the repair I plan to use marine-tex on any pitted areas and then Fiberglass the whole tank. Has anyone out there ever done this before? If so,how did it come and how long should I expect this type of repair to last? Any Pro's and Con's would be appreciated.

did you not write this last week and get advised to use a liner inside the tank, is this not a 1000ltr tank, if you are the same postee, I would suggest changing the tank, you are talking a hell of a wieght in fuel slopping around, I would certainly not take chances and play about trying to patch it, if you do patch it, please never moor or anchor near me, I would be frightened to even light up on board.

If you are a different postee I appologise.

Fibreglass won't stick to aluminium. You'll end up in a situation where the fuel will seep out of the tank and fill the "skin" of fibreglass so that you effectively will have an aluminium reinforced fibreglass tank.
