Gas regulator failure!

We have a varying problem with our two burner + grill plastimo stove, either it will not light due to lack of gas or it blasts out in near flame thrower proportions before settling down. It seems likely that the regulator is failing, can anyone else comment or confirm what they think it might be. PS we have taken the precaution of disconnecting the gas bottle at all times we are not trying to use the stove.

regulators are supposed to be changed every 5 years, they are cheap, replace it.

We had a problem once with 2 Gaz cylinder refills that were apparently overfilled, the gas came out so hard it blew itself out, a 3rd cylinder was OK and we haven't had a problem since. At the time the marina guys didn't believe the Gas was the problem, but we could demonstrate that the other cylinder was OK, we carry four and were changing 3 all bought from them before starting a cruise.
