Aren't gas regulations a damned nuisance? I'm coming out this month for a coat of paint but I'm going to have to get a survey done for the insurance people so I'm going to have to get the yard to somehow convert my locker to the necessary 'elf'n'safety stuff ... and presumably I'll have to do away with the gas fire in the cabin ... hasn't managed to blow itself up in 41 years but you never know .... ! Has anyone got insurance with a gas explosion exclusion?

Without commenting on the safety issues, I was talking to my insurance company today about arranging cover for my boat, for which I wasn't for various reasons, in possession if the latest survey yet. They said they could start cover, but I would not be covered for any incident arising out of any survey recommendations that hadn't been carried out.

So effectively if there were gas recommendations not carried out, I'd have an exclusion for gas incidents. But personally I wouldn't take to many chances with gas.

Hi went through the same thing couple of years ago and insurers just placed an exclusion on incidents arising from the gas system. I fitted new gas bottle locker and shut off valves etc last year but kept the old Valiant gas water heater. Gas exclusion has been lifted without a gas certificate.
For a gas certificate I do have to fit a permanent vent iwo the water heater. I have always been very careful with gas but you can forget sometimes to switch things off. I was comfortable with the exclusion clause and sailed the boat for two seasons with it.
