Can anyone tell me what size gas pipe I should be using for a 2 Burner, Grill & Oven Cooker. Cooker requirements are 28,250 BTU/Hr. Using Butane and with a 4 metre pipe run with bulkhead fitting, test point & tap. System was previously 1/4 in. but boatyard engineer reckons on 3/8 in. I think excessive and 5/16 in. would suffice. Anyone know different, or conversion of BTU to Kilowatts?

recently completed hunter channel 31 and they specified 3/8'' pipework to comply with rcd. doing it again i wouldn't bother with gas. trying to find a corgi registered plumber qualified to install is virtually impossible and not worth the hassle. i also believe that most if not all insurers insist on corgi certification.

Not really a problem as my engineer in the boatyard is Corgi Registered as is my mate.

Quite correct Mike, if I can pin him down. As he is the only Corgi registered plumber in the area, it's not so easy.

Fairly sure it's 3/8. Sure there was a thread about it ages ago. What size is the test thingy?

Hi! I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the hob and check with them I would suggest that you dont reduce the pipe from the size that is found on the hob. Be a little careful the "CORGI" man, like myself may not be registered for Calor type mobile gas installations? Hope this helps? pm me if I can be of further help Rob

Haven't got one yet Hadyn as its a 40 yr old boat and I am renewing all the pipework to BSS standards. Not a requirement here on the Broads at present, but as I am getting round to doing things, I am bringing her up to the correct standard now. Have decided to go 3/8" anyway now.

Thanks Robin, the cooker is an old, but in exteremely good condition, Calor model. I have decided to go for 3/8" and avoid any hassles. I don't have to be BSS certified until 2005 on the Broads, but wanted to do it now as it 's better for insurance purposes. Insurance companies just think everyone has to be on it.
