Hopfully off to France this Summer for 3 months and I will need to increase Gas stock.
Ive checked out my locker and by laying bottles on their side rather standing upright, I can get larger bottles in. I intend to make a frame to secure so they will stand a swell.
I have never seen bottles stored in this manner so am a little worried is it OK . Any help will be gratefully accepted . Regards steve

I suspect with the bottle on it's side you get liquid and not gas. real problem as will want to turn back into gass with pressure to stop it.

Not a good idea.

Let's hope a gas expert will along shortly.

Good luck. :)

Yes must be upright in use

Calor say "Cylinders should be used and stored in the upright position"

Forklift truck cylinders work on thier side.It would mean changing all the jets on all gas appliances.Obtaining the replacements in France could be a pain, but they are more likely to be able to refill your own cylinders.Prob not worth it >Just a thought

Use gas bottles upright otherwise liquid gas goes through the regulator and then expands. I can't remember the expansion ratio but you may not have a boat left after the explosion (worse case scenario). Storage is a bit different but I like to store my gas bottles upright and then I don't have to worry.

Camping Gaz

Why mess around with laying on side which sounds very iffy.
Buy £5 Camping Gaz regulator and replace existing 1 or more Calor ones, then use Camping Gaz whilst in France, which is readily available all over.
If you are only there for a modest stint, keep 1 Calor regulator and 1 Camping Gaz and carry both types of bottle.

Thanks for all your thoughts

Many thanks to everyone whos taken the time to reply.
Ive just ordered my French regulator.
Regards Steve

You can also get an adaptor/shutoff valve to fit onto Camping Gas bottles which then accept the normal Calor butane regulator either directly or via the normal pigtail if the regulator is wall mounted

saves frigging about swapping regulators
