Hi,

Does anyone have a copy of the British Standards 5482:3 - which tells the rules of instalation of gas into a boat.

Or - if anyone knows what the rules are for private use, that would be good.

Thank you,

Hi
Insurance companies are getting very strict on gas installations, even if you do the work yourself some of them require a certificate from a marine registered corgi gas fitter.
once you have found one just give him your cheque book and tell him to get on with whatever you want.

Yeah! .... don't get me going on this subject tonight....have wife's birthday party to organise in the morning. These creeping rules have been brought in through the back door by trade associations who's only interest is extracting several hundred pounds a year for 'registration'. I'm a Chartered Electrical Engineer, but am no longer allowed to change a light switch in my own kitchen!! . As for 'servicing' my domestic gas boiler: if it becomes compulsory, the very first thing I would do after the 'fitter' departs is thoroughly check it myself as otherwise I would not sleep.

Does it strike you as rather bizarre...

Does it strike you as rather bizarre that we can't just download a British Standard? If the idea is to improve safety, why should we have to pay £60 or so to get hold of a copy of the regulations? This "safety" business has become very big business.

Happily serviced my own gas boiler for years - and servicing it involved serious dissembly. Round comes the plumber to quote for a new boiler and the officious idiot reported me to corgi for having the case off the boiler (it vibrated) He didnt get the work on the new boiler, and Corgi told him that the regs didnt apply to work I did for myself and not to be so stupid.
