Gas Bottles (crisis?)

AFAIK one has always needed an empty bottle to buy another.

Chicken and egg situation, how do you get the original bottle?

you pay the deposit. I have numerous Flogas, glogas, handigas bottles for all occasions, they were easier to come by. As above, calor are a pain in the gas.

I visited Tunbridge Wells waste disposal site a few weeks ago, and noticed that they had about a dozen cylinders in a corner.

Yes, they take them, but not in the skips. Not long ago wouldn't touch them, so, progress.
