Boat has small camping gaz bottles which cost a fortune (£38 a refill in chandlery in Lochinver ...) and I want to use 4.5kg calor bottles instead. I have space for these against vertical bulkheads venting over the side. The floor section where I want to have these has three different heights, and is therefore awkward to place the bottles on.

Ideally, what I want is a stainless bottle holder for these which will hold the base above the floor and fasten the bottle to the vertical bulkhead. Can't see anything apart from those holders which are screwed to the floor and also the ones with straps.

Any ideas of where I might get what I want.

A bit too Clampit (if you remember the Beverly Hillbillies) for me. Anyway, I have the space where they can be hidden away.

Would it not be feasible to fabricate a false floor out of half inch ply with attached bearers that match your differing heights?

Yes, but that sounds less elegant than a simple stainless frame and, also, wood rots. The frame would only need to hold the bottle bottom in place (a smaller diameter than the main body of the bottle) and then use a strap to hold the rest in place.

I'd go for the Calor Propane ones. (Orange cylinders) Burns better at low ambient temps.

And  you can fill from a big one to the tiny one, so gas price is below 1/2. :)

But I already have the blue ones. Not sure I want to carry the 15kg bottle around with me in order to fill the smaller ones ...

sorry bad explanation on my part.

The smallest orange propane bottle is 3.9 kg.

You can buy connectors to refill blue butane bottles as well. It is a lot cheaper, but to make the connector purchase worthwhile, you need to be refilling three or four times a year.

The plastic gas bottle holders are very poor in quality and strength ,what I did with one of my gas bottles I mounted the base of the bottle over a nylon circle that fits snugly and keeps bottle off the deck and at neck height of cylinder put s/steel eye bolt with ratchet strap that goes around.Holds very well
