Gas alarm and Bilgex

Last season I was plagued by false gas alarms. This spring I had no trouble until I scrubbed the bilges with Bilgex. It gives off powerful fumes but I use it often to keep the bilges clean and sweet. Do you think this could be triggering the alarms?
 
Short answer: Yes.
It is well known that gas alarms are sensitive to all sorts of cleaning agents including floor and furniture polish. They can contaminate the sensor and make it useless.

Sorry for the thread drift - but I'd be interested to know whether folk are simply fitting domestic gas alarms (Co2 alarms as in B&Q et al) or whether they are "special" (other than in price!) boat/marine alarms? And where are these things fitted? In the bilge area? High up is not good as most gasses sink being heavier than air? (Apologies for the grade 5 CSE chemistry knowledge).
