I'm about to replace my old Rathon radar with a Garmin one. Looking at the data cable it appears to be a modified RJ45 connecter at each end encased in the biggest plug know to man. I can only assume the Garmin design engineer has never been near a boat.

Has anybody cut the cable in two, I can then use the existing holes in the boat to feed the cable up to the chartplotter. If you have what did you use to join the ends? A simple chocolate box or something more robust?

You can chop the collar off of the plotter end and fit a split collar after threading the cable through. Or, cut the cable and splice it. Solder and heatshrink, wagos, crimps, take tour pick, no chock blocks please ;)

Thanks Paul, I'll splice it. You knew the chock blocks were my wee joke.
