Just came across a reference on Panbo to the Garmin Quatix. Must surely be the ultimate sailing watch with facilities for controlling a Garmin autopilot, receiving NMEA sentences for depth etc, built-in MOB functionality etc. Details on Garmin's website here : https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=120680&ra=true but the manual's not available for download yet.

Bit like buying a dive computer - if you're going to get enough use out of it nice to have something like that. Or if money's no object...

For a fraction of a second, I worked out where I was in the lifecycle for my SH plotter and NASA instruments.

Then I figured out that they are ok for another couple of years.

Then I remembered that my iPad is only 2nd Gen ( Bluetooth & Homeport - I might even forgive Garmin for the BlueChart let down of a couple of years ago -£40 for .eu soft charts isn't too bad)

I had a land-oriented Garmin fenix for a couple of days, but returned it when I saw the press release for the quatix. I'll get one as soon as they are out, with two excuses:
1. It will replace my old wrist-mounted foretrex for range&bearing to waypoint on the rail.
2. My Casio GeekWatch does ABC and gets UTC(NPL) on 60 hz - the Garmin (as all GPSRs) gets UTC (USNO), so I'll be able to time my annual noon sight using *two* independent atomic clocks ;-)
