garmin gpssmap451 to Nasa ais engine

Anyone had experience of connecting these? I've connected blues and blacks but nothing appears on the plotter. Help! The nasa is working because we can see targets when connected to a laptop.

Make sure the Garmin - AIS port connection is set to NMEA High Speed in the settings.
Go into the set up menus in the Garmin and change it.

FWIW I had the same problem, so you're not alone.

However, if you have any other devices hooked up to the Garmin as well as the AIS (e.g. VHF, autopilot) make sure they're set to NMEA standard - they should be on a separate port. Not a problem because the Garmin has 2 ports.

I had the Nasa connected to a Northstar on my last boat, and had the devils own job getting the wiring details from Northstar on what the wiring colours were, and have now a Garmin 750 connected to a Furuno Radio Ocean RO4800 VHF / AIS unit.

I have set nmea to high speed but still no success. I'll try some other settings.
