HI all
I have one of these on a new (to me) boat and it is I guess at least 12 years old but works fine. Still has original built in map and firmware. I can see how to upgrade the firmware for free and there are two options 1. to update built in map: UK & Ireland g3 UK update
2, the G3 English Channel specific map (which costs a little more) but has auto guidance instead of manual waypoints only
Couldn't really get any clarity on whether the small specific map (option 2) has better detail generally and was wondering if anyone happened to know. Otherwise only benefit seems to be auto-guidance. I won't be outside of Solent/South Coast so the UK-wide charting is not important to me but I would imagine that the original map would benefit from an update.
The plotter is a little clunky and the resolution isn't the best but seems to work fine so not sure it is worth changing it out. The new card is £120-£150 depending on choice while a replacement plotter is up at £700+
Best
