Hi All,

I have a Garmin GPS230 chart plotter which i acquired with a previous boat. I'm now in the process of changing boats but have never really got a chance to use the Garmin much (due to a long story)

I've heard that the 230 uses G-maps which are no longer supported. Is this an issue? I have the charts for the East of England but may want to add to that.

Can anyone offer any general advice on these as to whether to upgrade and the consequences of the g-maps no longer being supported?

Many thanks,

Nick

basically you can't get new g-charts or get existing ones 'updated' with new navigational information (shifting channels, buoyage etc)

SH charts come up from time to time on ebay and the for sale forums here as well as sites like boats and outboards

the larger ones covering the solent and channel command a premium - 100/150, others are available at about 25 for small and 50 for larger ones.

I run g-charts in both a 215 and 225 differential unit and see few discrepencies over more recent navionics charts or Nautipath ones from this year - that said major chunks of rock vary little in a few years!

I have many for the lower east coast, holland and the baltic to N germany.............doesn't look like I will use those now so if anyone is looking for some let me know by pm

Good bit of kit.

Shame that Garmin fell out withe producer of the charts, which is why you cant buy them.

Personally I belive that all products sold should be supported for at least 7 years. The UK Govenment requires all suppliers to support the products for 7 years, when sold to it.

On that subject Internet Explorer 7.0 is now out but I cannot use it because I use Windows 2000, which I bought in 2001, and which is not supported
