I am having trouble with my GPS unit. I believe that the co-axial cable has broken near the bayonett fitting which goes into the back of the machine, as the previous owner had rigged it so that it had a tight bend in it. Is it a) possible to take it apart and rewire it, or b) buy an new fitting and connect it to the cable?

IMHO, I would have thought, as it is only coax and very similiar to a VHF connector style plug, then yes whip it off and solder on a new one - I'm sure there is a techy on here that would know the ins and outs. If it isn't working at the minute anyway, it can't do much harm to have a go.

Just checking, I am assuming it is deffinitely the coax from the antenna and not the main power/data cable. On mine the coax is very flexible and would bend, the power/data cable on the other hand is a completely different story.

Don't panic!
I have the older 120XL and have moved it several times, each time cutting off the aerial 's BNC plug to get it through the bulkhead. Any 50 ohm BNC plug will be OK, but my own preference is the crimp type - neat, quick and reliable. If you know anyone who may be into electronics/wiring, buy them a beer to come and fit a crimp plug! Come to think of it - computer networks used to use BNC terminals so that may be a source of the crimp tool...
