garmin gps antenna removing cable

hi everybody im still trying to fix leeks on my southerly 105 the last owner drilled a hole through the deck to put the cable through then stuck what looks like chewing gum on the wire where it comes through the deck is there a way of removing the cable from the garmin gps antenna so i can put it through a gland ?

If it's the one that looks like a mushroom, no, not easily anyway. The cable goes into the mushroom and is soldered to the actual aerial plate inside. There is a small screw that locks the top of the mushroom in place. When the screw is removed the top of the mushroom screws off but it's a hell of a job to get it to move. I had to drill a couple of holes in the top to give me some leverage. When I eventually got it off there's nothing you can do inside anyway...
I'd guess you will have to work from the other, plug, end.

I think you will find the "plug" end is only a co axial, at least it is on our 188c

You will have to chop the BNC connector off the end of the cable by the display unit, route the cable and then fit a new connector. The best replacement to use is a clamp-on or solder type. Both of these types require soldering so get a twist on type if you want to avoid this. These are all available from Maplin or RS.
