Hi I have recently added a Garmin Autopilot system to my Sailboat. Unfortunately I had to mount the control unit out of reach of the helm due to space limitations. This means that I can't easily engage or disengage the autopilot from the helm.
The solution seems obvious - get the matching remote control... However the functionality does seem a little limited. I have read the instruction book (online) and it seems that the only useful function is to disengage the autopilot or to put it into 'heading hold' mode.
The instructions don't explain very clearly about what can be done with the 'programmable' buttons. For instance can I engage the autopilot to goto a waypoint or a route?
Has anyone got any practical experience with one of these remotes that they can share?
