My PC had a major problem yesterday - corrupted boot sectors on HD.

OK, get the restore DVDs out and we're back in business - but of course all programmes need to be re-installed as the registry has been re-written.

Oh bu**er, can't find the Garmin original CD for my charts and MapSource (which allows you to view charts on the PC etc.)

Quick call to Garmin this morning - OK it's no longer a current product, but we'll blow a CD from our master and post it to you.

What more could you ask for?

One thing that seems pretty constant is that Garmin provide GREAT customer service!!

We have need to speak with them a few times and they have been nothing short of exceptional in the customer service department and for that alone, i will return to buy more of their kit! (the fact their kit is very good as well helps! :D )

I agree.

I have been looking at secondhand Map76 handhelds on Ebay (why do they go for such silly prices?) to replace mine which had broken pins on the interface.

Garmen repaired the unit for fifty quid. In fact they have not repaired it, they have reconditioned it, it was returned in perfect condition, looking brand new. Like Trigger's broom, I suspect they have replaced everything.

Yes, Garmin's UK base has built an exemplary reputation for Customer Support 'above and beyond'. That's down to the quality of the small handful of people who are the CS Department, and their close accomplices, the PR ladies.

That public high regard translates into customer goodwill. I wouldn't go past Garmin for the instruments they produce, in large part due to that goodwill.

Besides, they do excellent bacon butties at the So'ton Boat Show.... ;)

You mean like the time my brand new Raymarine C90W kept losing GPS and the guy from Raymarine said "perhaps Ofcom have turned some of the satellites off" ? After a month of getting the runaround i rejected it and bought Garmin.

Just changed over to Sail and specified all Garmin kit, having upgraded to it from Raym on the last boat. The dealer was recommending Raym C90 but I too have been on the end of of Raym service advice that was useless and not helpful. Whereas Garmin are the opposite and exceeded expectations. Interestingly, the dealer who is supplying the new boat who favours Raym, stated that Garmin was more motorboat oriented rather than sail. Anyone heard this?

No, like the time when my my Raymarine autopilot went doo-lally and my TackTick wind wouldn't show true wind (different occasions) but both tracked back (perversely) to my Garmin GPS.

Garmin on the other hand have just helped me configure my chart plotter to my NASA AIS

Impressed by both companies support and their products.

Yes they do, but...

I hate to write this actually:
I always loved garmin ad their products, in fact i still do, but:
My gpsmap 5008 packed up last year (only six months in service), it was installed in the cockpit, so when i took it out it left a major hole in the bulkhead. Garmins excellent support returned a replacement unit to me within a week, which is ecellent, BUT now after winter storage my radar dome 18hd is not working...
To be honest i am not pleased anymore because this is a thing which is not easily replaced.
I am not sure if there is a pattern there or if i am just unlucky?
Will see how fast garmin reacts this time, but my my whole equipment is only one year in service and i used the radar three times maybe?

Regards,
Jow

I have 3 diff garmins and have no problems and am happy with them . I am glad they have improved there customer service from the blue charts issues and fiascoes (which allegedly left a lot of people quite unhappy) a few years ago

well garmin it is or me next time have heard good reports elswhere also.
had an expensive almost nightmare time with humminbird u.s.a .was advised by them the wrong sort of transducer for depth reading, when asked for refund on return of product took threats of court action to get a result and that only happened when i found that the particular transducer was made by a different company called airmar and branded humminbird, the same airmar transducer gave different specifications, proving my case.
