Garmin Etrex data cable

I have just acquired a great little Etrex for not much money, however it didn't come with a data cable for uploading/downloading waypoints etc.
'The Google' tells me they are available but only seem to have serial connections which my laptop does not.
Has anyone had any luck with a serial to USB adaptor?

Yes, it works with a serial to USB adapter, but I don't think you can transfer waypoints and routes. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm mistaken.

Maplins do a card mounted serial socket which should be OK and it slots into the modem slot if you have one.

Same here... simple, easy, does what it says on the tin....

On the other question I can't speak for the Etrex but I use a serial/USB adaptor for my Garmin 72H and it does indeed allow you to transfer tracks/routes/waypoints.....
