Garmin Bluechart - Does an update really cost £299.99!!!

We have a couple of Garmin chartplotters aboard a 5008 and a 5012 - they share the same SD Bluechart sg Vision. They are about 4 years old.

I have previously registered and updated the products and maps.

The Bluechart Map for all of UK VEU706L is now saying I need an update. When I try and purchase this via the Garmin site it wants to charge me £299.99! Is it really necessary to have to pay the full new price of the charts every few years to keep them up to date?

That's why I ditched Garmin and went for Standard Horizon.

My BMW sat nav update was a similar amount, rooted around on the net and found a DIY version for £45

That doesn't sound right. It is £50 to update my garmin 450. I think you were on the wrong bit of the website and trying to buy a new chart. I have to put in my plotter serial no. to get the update.

On Ebay there is a bloke from Canada who does G2V and costs around £60 - £140 for new charts. All legal and upfront, he has no overheads and it all arrives on Garmin cards and will register on Garmin perfectly.

That price sounds the full price. Garmin offer a free update but it probably is as soon as u buy it. I just bought the UK one it looks awesome.
