Garmin Bluechart 8.5 Help Needed

Have been using Mapsource and Bluechart 7 with Gps tracking on laptop and found to be very good.

Yesterday for a present was given Bluechart 8.5 CD in its little plastic case so I loaded onto the laptop got my code and unlocked my chosen map and hey ho the format seems different, it has overwritten my old mapsource programe, it seems to have lost the GPS tag that you can enable to start tracking and record your track on laptop screen.
Now I have read the help menu but I cannot find any reference to confirm it supports on screen tracking.
I have deleted all my mapsource products and reloaded, the screen supports GPS on screen tracking up to the point I reload 8.5. Help!! what am I doing wrong

I have bluechart v7 cd. i have found i can only upload and download data to my gps unit, and cannot use the software on the laptop for live positioning.

You need to use an application called nRoute which can be downloaded free from Garmin. This gives the same functionality as the old GPS tab did.

Thanks Pauln, downloaded nRoute from Garmin, that appears to give you the on screen tracking, just need to try it live on the boat.

Very frustrating that Garmin seem to hide all this information.

Never ceases to amaze the depth of knowledge on this forum and willingness of folk to share.

Thank you NDH and thank you Pauln. I did not realise i could turn my laptop into a extension of my gps, just downloaded nroute. fantastic cheers guys

As I replied to someone yesterday, I have rarely found such good after sales support as from Garmin UK - if you need more help I would try them
