Hi
Marine Superstore at Portsmouth are doing re-furbished ones at £529 including UK & Eire charts, presumably returns with a fault , repaired and checked out and guaranteed for 1 year.
These look a decent offer, my concern is that there was a post recently about someone buying a new 750 and finding the charts were out of date and a cost of £50 to update. In this context what is out of date and what should I be looking for. i know nothing about Garmin charts.

I asked them if it included the 6 month chart update same as full price ones - here's the answer

"Hi Sir,

Yes you should be able to do this through Garmin's website as well. These units are as new, the only difference is they come in a different box."

Not really a very big reduction though is it for a refurb? £530 against £600 - 11.7% reduction.

For comparison I've just bought a "refurbished" Dyson vacuum with full Dyson warranty it was about 33% off normal.

The upshot of the row about possibly out of date charts on a Garmin pre-loaded plotter resulted in Garmin setting up a free first update being available online to download from their website. It works, I know I have used it for my 750.
First you put an SD card in the plotter and download the plotter serial number and user info onto the card. The card is then put in a reader on your computer, the Garmin site will check the info from the card and download the update to the card. The card is then ready to use in your 750. In my case the increased size of the update meant that I have to keep the card in the plotter as the inbuilt memory is insufficient. This is the same as if you were using a card for a different area or wasting money on their fancy range of G2 vision charts.

But don't forget that the RRP was about £1000 and selling prices £850-£950 only a year or so ago. The price has already been reduced a lot.

Thats the MRRP from Garmin which has never held any water, shops have a clear profit marker and you can get new 750 at the refurbished price now. Ask for a discount on the refurbished price, you'll probably get it, Especially this weekend, with another 10% off the already reduced price as Garmin are in Port Solent Marinesuperstore boosting sales, the tech man will also be there to assist in updating etc;
