I notice elsewhere there are a number of Garmin 'Map' users on here. Anyone with experience of the handheld map unit 60C? I want a hand held unit only.I've been trying to get an understandable comment on scale. All I'm being told is that you can zoom in on the general map. So why do they give you the facility of buying local areas charts.? People have talked about 'downloading'. Is this on a seperate PC or what?

For example, I want a general chart of the Bristol channel, but if available and not some silly price, would like larger scale charts of each port on the Bristyol Channel. Is that sort of thing possible with these units?

I have the Garmin GPS map76. The general map is just that - crude coast outlines, major roads towns etc. - no detail at all. When you load the proper Bluechart info into it you get all the marine info you need for navigation, but still very cluttered and the bouys only seem to come up if you zoom in a lot. Also all the soundings & wrecks shown really clutter up the screen(there is probably a way to turn off soundings/wrecks but I'm still learning!) I bought the Bluechart Atlantic CD(from the US - although I had to pay VATetc) and downloaded all my local charts. Works well.
Sorry, don't know about the 60C.
