Garmin 555 plotter, deleting waypoints in 'bulk'

Anyone know how to delete all waypoints on the plotter, rather than doing it one at a time? With a couple of hundred WPs and six key presses to delete every one it's very tedious to do it one by one.

"Restore factory settings" worked when I wanted to delete everything from my 551S.

 

[Storyline]

This is a guess but you may be able to do it by exporting everything to the SD card then transferring that into a pc running Garmin charting software. Edit the data and then upload to plotter. My pc is down at the moment but from memory it is called Mapsource.

This is also a useful way of getting new icons on the plotter as mine (gpsmap 4010) has a lot of useless icons (levee, picnic area etc) and a shortage of useful ones. You can also keep a total track line this way covering all your cruising as the boat plotter deletes the start of a track to make room for the new one (if you see what I mean !).
