My plotter is accurate enough on the screen to show my boat on the correct finger of the correct pontoon, but the gps lat/long is way out when checked against my garmin gps 72 and garmin 550. Like they both read 50*47degrees when my garmin 4008 reads 50* 79?. Any ideas why the chart should show correct position but the coordinates read wrong please? Thanks. Alan

Are you sure you have set them to use the same display units?

The 47 looks like 47 out of 60, which is the same as 79 out of 100.

One unit is set to read decimal

My immediate thought was that they were set to different datums but that does seem a long way out. Check that they are all set to WGS84. Check your position on a paper chart to find out which one is giving the correct position.

I agree with the previous posters, I thought I had the same problem when I installed a new Garmin 5012 but it was the units that needed setting correctly. We tend to use degrees and minutes in the UK but the Garmin plotters seem to be shipped with degrees and fractions of a degree.
