My boat came with a 276C, which I've been using for the last two years in a low-key sort of way - mostly to get lat & long toplot on paper charts, CoG, SoG; and it's been handy to have a set of local electronic charts (presumably rather outdated, but as far as I know they haven't moved the IoW in the last few years). It was convinced though that it was sometime in 2004.
In a fit of tidyness, having found all the original CDs and cables for it, I thought I'd plug it in to the PC at home and see if it could be updated.
Well, that was a mistake. It's now been sat connected overnight with "loading" showing on the Garmin, and "1 minute left" on the "Garmin Map Updater". The old but detailed charts have vanished, leaving only blocky coastal and basic contour outlines, and the updater on the PC says that shutting it down may render the Garmin unusable. I should have left well alone.
Any ideas? (Very preferably ones that avoid spending lots of money!)
