You can set the Garmin 128 to output NMEA data, then just hook it up to an ordinary budget-price GPS repeater such as the Silva Star or Nasa Clipper.

Why bother?

I found the cost of a repeater was more than the cost of a hand held, so I bought a hand held.

NMEA output from Maptech Offshore Navigator (lite)

Anyone know if Offshore Navigator Lite can output to a GPS repeater?
It would be nice for our local travel if we could view the info on deck without having to put a complete computer monitor up there....

The wiring detail in the Garmin handbook is self explanatory and the same is true of the Nasa repeater, both very clear about which cables to connect together. I found it very easy to set up and Compass sold me the Nasa for about £89 at Southampton if I remember correctly. Also the Nasa comes with about 10 metres of cable so no problems rigging throught to the cockpit.

Re: Why bother?

I've got two GPS’s, but what I was hoping to achieve was to be able to drive the 128, which works with a Yeoman plotter, from two positions, chart table and cockpit, and to input from either. If not I'll just fit two GPS’s and run them separately

I have a Silva. It was easy to fix and works well. I bought it from MES at Bristol a year or so ago.
The repeater is very useful on deck and does comfort things like telling you how much time to next way point - useful if you get bored on watch.
the Silva also gives 12 volt supply voltage which can be usefult too.
