I know this is a really old model- but mine is wired to the Yeoman plotter and works really well for what I want it to do.

My problem is that when switched on for the first time in 4 months it gave me a warning message that the memory battery was running low.

I have e-mailed Garmin but as yet not received a reply.

Does anyone know if this is user changeable? If so where would I get a suitable replacement.

Thanks

Donald

If this is the same as my old garmin 75, I`m afraid it will have to go into a garmin service service point for replacement. Don`t know the cost. Give `em a ring or e-mail them

Before returning the unit for a replacement battery it is worth leaving it switched on for 24hrs or so if it has been off over the winter months.(preferably on 12v cable!) This has worked on my GPS48.

If you don't mind opening the unit up (it is obviously out of guarantee) you should invariably be able to identify the battery (cell). Whether you feel competent to replace it or not is a different matter (may or may not need soldering to the circuit board); but perhaps you know a friend - perhaps a radio amateur type- who would do it. Sometimes the battery will be a 'proprietary' design, but it is always possible to come up with a functional alternative.

Thanks for all your ideas.
Think I'll leave it switched on this weekend and see if it will take a charge.

If not I'll have a go at opening it up and having a look inside.

Well, E-mailed Garmin. No reply - so I thought - then a couple of days later I got a private e-mail from a guy who said that Garmin did not support gps' that old but he said he could send me the battery for £5 (inc p+p) and instructions on how to do it.

True to his word a couple of days later a batter and very detailed instuctions came back.

Needless to say - the battery was fitted this weekend - in about 3 minutes flat.

Great service all round!

Oh. What have I done? Deleted the guys e-mail - so I cant even thank him for his assistance.

Cheers

Donald
