I have two reconditioned Gardner 6LXB engine/hydraulic gearbox combos surplus to requirements following an expensive dalliance with a beautiful ex-RNLI lifeboat. Any thoughts on how/where best to advertise said items would be appreciated. Apart from mentioning it here, of course...

Boatsandoutboards.com would be a good bet, wish I could afford them!!! Not so much the cost, but the cost of fitting them!!
Raw water or heat exchanger cooled, out of a steel solent?

If you Google Gardner Engines you will find all sorts of people into the lovely engines - dealers, reconditioners, user fora etc.

Brings back memories of when they were a customer of mine in the late 60's. When I visited was always impressed with the row of buffed up engines in the foyer! Factory was great as an example of traditional engineering works.

Good luck

Thanks chaps. They're fresh-water cooled with a sea water heat exchanger and out of a Barnett Class. The new owner says he wants to put in something smaller, as they were already removed for reconditioning when I passed on the boat. Gorgeous engines though, as I'm sure you all know!

http://www.gardner-enthusiast.com/ will be a good start, they have a for sale section, and http://www.findafishingboat.com is another. the commercial lads are always interested, especially with deisel prices the way they are

what sort of price you looking for, might know someone that might be interested.

still a very highly regarded motor and rightly so, the trawler lads used to order their gardner engine first, and then get a boat built to suit

Still don't think there's been an engine made to match them for efficiency, reliablity and longevity, to the point where I'm sorely tempted myself despite having a Ford with only 400 hours on it!

Rare beasts the Barnett class boats, my bruv converted a watson 46, but lusted after a barnett! Too late now!

Hi Monkey--Trousers(?)

I've put one of the pair up on boatsandoutboards for offers on 7K. That's for a professionally stripped and rebuilt engine, plus Gardner hydraulically operated gearbox, a suitably-sized Gilkes raw water pump, exhaust heat exchanger and prop shaft coupling (u/j). Gardner Marine does 'official' recons at about £18k with a gearbox, apparently. If somebody wants both mine they could save even more! :-)

Lovely engines.

I've just had the original (40 year old) Petter in my Hillyard rebuilt. It positively gleams now, with its polished brass and copper! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
